In the 3rd match of TATA IPL 2023 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by 50 runs. LSG's Kyle Mayers scored a brilliant 73 off 38 balls on his IPL debut while Mark Wood shone with the ball, taking 5/14 to help LSG secure the win.

DC started their chase of 194 with a solid start from David Warner and Prithvi Shaw, who scored 40 runs from the first four overs. However, Wood's fiery spell changed the momentum of the match as he picked up three crucial wickets, including Shaw and Marsh. LSG's Ravi Bishnoi also contributed with two wickets, dismissing Rossouw and Powell, to put pressure on DC. Despite Warner's fifty, the required run rate climbed too high, and DC lost wickets quickly, with Avesh removing Aman Khan and Warner in the same over. Wood completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Axar Patel and Chetak Sakariya, helping LSG secure the victory.
Earlier, DC won the toss and elected to field. LSG's Mayank Agarwal fell early, but Mayers' explosive innings, along with contributions from Nicholas Pooran, Krunal Pandya, and Ayush Badoni, pushed the team to 193/6. Khaleel Ahmed and Mukesh Kumar bowled well in the powerplay, giving away just one boundary in the first three overs, but Mayers' onslaught helped LSG post a competitive total.
DC named Aman Khan, Pravin Dubey, Manish Pandey, Lalit Yadav, and Abhishek Porel as their substitutes, while LSG named Yash Thakur, K Gowtham, Daniel Sams, Prerak Mankad, and Amit Mishra as their substitutes. Aman Khan was brought in as the Impact Player in the 20th over of LSG's innings, replacing Khaleel Ahmed.
